About Dr. Abdul-Chani

Dr. Monica Abdul-Chani (she/her/hers/ella) is a Post-Doctoral Fellow specializing incomprehensive autism evaluations at Panorama Psychology.

While she works with a large age range, her age groups of expertise and passion are school-age children, adolescents, and young adults. Advocacy and prioritizing the voices of those with the lived experience has been her main objective and passion since she started her training in 2017. As a bilingual-bicultural, multiracial Latina, Dr. Abdul-Chani grew up witnessing and experiencing systemic inequities. As she began working with autistic individuals and individuals with developmental disabilities, she gained more perspective on similar injustices that existed because of the presence of a diagnosis.

Her research and clinical work have focused centrally on stigma, prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination for autistic individuals and their families. As such, when working with patients Dr. Abdul-Chani strives to pull together the individual facets of one’s identity, their experiences, and the way in which they move through the world to understand who they are. Her goal is to utilize this approach to appropriately diagnose, treat, provide recommendations and consult on best care and practice for each person.

She is originally from a small, rural town in northwest New Jersey, and she is fluent in Spanish. When she is not working, she's hanging out with loved ones, dancing, swimming, reading, baking, or wandering in the woods.
